In 1839, the first building travelers saw as they crossed the Mississippi River into Dubuque was the hotel on the corner of 2nd and Main. The old “Julien Hotel” survived a fire, hosted famous guests such as Abraham Lincoln, “Buffalo Bill” Cody and Mark Twain, gained notoriety and was ultimately purchased by the current ownership in 1962.
